When I hear that theme kick in at 1.21 I can hear my mother say to my sister and me, "Right, you two...bed"
Brian Walden starts at 2:48
Missed out Thames and the early Yorkshire Television idents
Life was very different back in those days!
That theme tune takes me right back - home from school for dinner, if I heard that theme (and I did quite often) then I was either late back to school or I'd managed to blag the afternoon off.
This country got it.
I love watching documentaries about the Herald
All old hat now after Thames loosing its franchise in 1992, both studio complexes are now rubble, with the Thames name, now just being a name, remembered Edwards, missed Thames at the time, but the world moved on with tv-am also losing its franchise in 1992, how bad the industry became.
Is that teresa may at 11.15 in??

I'm sure that was Simon Batts the voice over to the News At 545.But I thought he was only the voice over in the 70s??
I seriously had the hots for Laura in the late 80's ......

Lord young of Graffham you see on the phone passed away in 2022. He was a major shareholder of Spectrum Interactive which owned New World Payphones, many of these occupying most of the Mercury street payphones sites. Mercurys street phones were replaced by IPM interphone in 1995 and most sold off to Spectrum Interactive in 2004. there are two derelict Interphone kiosks in Lewisham which have remained in situ and derelict sinxe 2004 which they didnt buy
I was 11 when the storm hit Kent in the early hours of 16 October 1987, leaving us with no power in Lydd for several days, only returning to normal around Halloween 1987. What a nightmarish two weeks coping without any power.
She looks like the devils daughter.

They couldn't find nobody for the job of voice over with ITN,thats what I think.
It is Simon Batts.
Did Diane Rhys Jones work at ITN in 87?

She was a dominatrix and he liked to be chastised and treated like a little boy. That's why he wanted her, a rather plain woman but she did it for him.

86, second form in comp school, but better times. Then this shit now in 2024,not so much the time, the horribleness and attitudes on people of today. But 86 good year, more genuine people.
Graham will have a real shiner tomorrow 😂
Oh how wrong they got it.
What a shame to put two old people to death who worked all their lives for their people....the couple had so much faith and trust in their countrymen that they even called a meeting where they asked their public for support something that evil dictators don't do when their end is near...
I was on the first Nimrod (Rescue01) scrambled to the Piper Alpha, actually from RAF Kinloss about 10 miles to the west of RAF Lossiemouth, where the first Sea King helicopter was also scrambled, the first of many military and civilian helicopters who responded that night. We were the first airborne rescue asset to arrive on scene and, after making an initial assessment at low level (500’ and 1/4 mile from the rig), we climbed up to height to identify and control all the incoming helicopters and coordinate communications with all surface and rotary platforms , as well as providing regular updates to our controlling authority Edinburgh Rescue at Pitreavie Castle. When everything had ‘calmed down’ at about 4-5 am, the world’s media were trying to get phone patches to us and get interviews with our crew Capt, Sqn Ldr Garry Porter. This was done over the HF radios. We had two HFs on the Nimrod but only one could transmit at any one time, and both had been heavily used throughout the night. This is the first time I’ve seen this clip, and I did wonder why John Stapleton got no reply to his question. But if this was just after 7am I can guarantee we had just landed back at Kinloss, or were about to, so the chances that the Capt ( who was a Navigator) would be in a position to conduct another interview, would have been zilch. I guess the production team trying to set up this link would not have even considered that! However, Garry had already conducted several interviews while airborne, in the few hours before we handed over to another crew and returned to base, so I guess the Beeb were just unlucky at this time. Once we landed, most of the crew just handed our safety equipment and mission tapes back and departed for home and sleep, having been airborne since about 2230 the previous night. I just remembered in time that I’d booked my car in for its MOT so had to take it in for that, then walk home through a lovely park with amazing flower beds and the sounds of birds singing . The 3 crew execs remained behind on base as they were required to attend a press conference. We gave them some serious banter the next day as they looked pretty tired and disheveled on TV - as you would under the circumstances.
